Mean Girls director Mark Waters to helm Bad Santa 2

Mark Waters is going from catty high-school cliques to sleazy yuletide crooks. The Mean Girls and Freaky Friday filmmaker is set to direct Billy Bob Thornton in Bad Santa 2, Miramax and Broad Green Pictures announced Tuesday.

Waters will work from a script by Johnny Rosenthal, Doug Ellin (Entourage), and Shauna Cross (If I Stay, Whip It).

Mean Girls director Mark Waters to helm Dork Diaries

Mean Girls director Mark Waters heads back to the classroom — this time with Dork Diaries. Waters will direct the big screen adaptation of Rachel Renee Russell’s YA series, EW has confirmed.

Russell’s books serve as 14-year-old Nikki Maxwell’s personal diary and tell the story of her middle school life alongside comic strips and doodles. Annie Hendy wrote the script for Dork Diaries’ film version, which Karen Rosenfelt (Twilight, The Devil Wears Prada) will produce for Lionsgate Summit.
