Hopefully you’ve spent part of the weekend watching Netflix’s new series, The Crown (and if not, you really should start — it’s great!) and seen Matt Smith’s portrayal of Prince Philip. When EW sat down with the actor, he was able to see a link between his current alter ego and his last, the Eleventh Doctor on Doctor Who. “Philip is an alien in this world,” he says. “He’s a total outsider.”

Matt Smith teases Netflix's The Crown: 'Sh-- gets really interesting'

In the summer of 2015, Matt Smith attended a star-studded charity polo match where one of the players happened to be Prince William, Duke of Cambridge — otherwise known as the future king of England. After the match, Smith waited to be royally received. The woman in charge of introductions told the prince that Smith would soon be portraying William’s grandfather Prince Philip on a new Netflix series, The Crown. Panic gripped the actor. “I thought, ‘Oh, God, oh, nooooo,’ ” remembers Smith.

Squeals from the audience were expected, of course, but even the panelists seemed completely delighted by each others aesthetics. “I just wanted to speak for the fans and say, ‘Tyler, you are so sexy,’” said Grimm’s David Guintoli to Teen Wolf’s Tyler Posey. Matt Smith and Zosia Mamet to star in Robert Mapplethorpe biopic

Matt Smith of Doctor Who and Zosia Mamet of Girls are set to play groundbreaking photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and punk icon Patti Smith, his onetime lover and lifelong friend, in a biopic from writer-director Ondi Timoner.

The film, which has the blessing of the Mapplethorpe Foundation, will chronicle how Mapplethorpe stunned the art world with his elegantly composed, sexually explicit, and often overtly homoerotic images before dying of AIDS at age 42.

Matt Smith of 'Doctor Who' joins 'Terminator' reboot

Matt Smith of Doctor Who fame will star in the next Terminator film. Skydance, which is producing the film with Paramount, tweeted the news earlier Friday, and the studio followed with confirmation. Smith will play a new character with a strong connection to anti-robot resistance fighter John Connor, now played by Zero Dark Thirty’s Jason Clarke.
