Casting Net: Kate Winslet, Emma Stone, Olivia Colman in talks for The Favourite

  • Kate Winslet, Emma Stone, and Olivia Colman are in talks to star in The Favourite, a historical drama about Britain’s Queen Anne that’s being directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster). Colman would play the queen; Winslet would play her confidant Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough; and Stone would play Abigail Masham, the duchess’ upstart cousin. Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara wrote the script. Filming is scheduled to start in the spring.

Mr. Sloane creator talks about his Nick Frost sitcom and the future of Curb Your Enthusiasm

Director Robert B. Weide says Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) reacted very enthusiastically when he emailed the British actor about playing the titular role in the U.K.-set sitcom Mr. Sloane. “He wrote back and and he said, ‘I’d give my right ball to work with you,’” says Weide. “I later told Nick’s wife that story, and she said ‘Oh, that’s his good one!’”

London Road trailer: Here's the Tom Hardy musical everyone wanted

The upcoming musical London Road puts a real-world spin on not just its story, but the dialogue of its characters.

The film, which stars Tom Hardy and Olivia Colman among an ensemble cast, is a musical set around the titular street in Ipswich, England that focuses on a real-life serial killer’s murders and subsequent trial from 2006 through 2008.

Few TV shows have gripped the residents of the U.K – including my very own mother – with the ferocity of the crime drama Broadchurch, which was broadcast to massive ratings and Twitter-melting interest earlier this year. Created by regular Doctor Who scribe Chris Chibnall, the show tracks a pair of cops, played by David Tennant and Olivia Colman, as they attempt to solve the murder of an 11-year-old boy and, along the way, uncover a multitude of sins in the titular seaside town.
