Monsters, Inc. director talks sequel rumors, gives Toy Story 4 update

One familiar Pixar world is getting its fourth tale, but another still has a long way to go before part three.

With Toy Story 4 on the horizon and Monsters, Inc. celebrating its 15th (already!?) anniversary on Wednesday, EW had to get in touch with resident Pixar filmmaker Pete Docter, who directed the latter and has been an integral story trust member on the Toy Story franchise.

Inside Out director Pete Docter used Oscars thank-you crawl to surprise his kids

Inside Out director Pete Docter nabbed the award for Best Animated Feature at Sunday’s Oscars, but he wasn’t the only one in his family who won big that evening: Docter used the thank-you crawl at the bottom of the screen to tell his kids that they’re getting a dog.

“I love you Amanda, Nick & Elie,” he wrote in the crawl, addressing his wife, son, and daughter, “okay yes, let’s get a dog.”

Inside Out wins top prizes at the Annie Awards

Disney and Pixar should be feeling a lot of joy right now.

Inside Out was the big winner at the 43rd Annie Awards, which honor the year’s achievements in animation. Going into the awards, Inside Out led with 14 nominations, more than any other film, and it won in 10 categories, including best animated feature. Peter Docter also won for best director and outstanding achievement in writing (with Meg LeFauve and Josh Cooley), and Phyllis Smith, who voices Sadness, was recognized for outstanding achievement in voice acting.

It’s time to break out the bubbly! After a night spent tossing and turning, Inside Out director Pete Docter says he’s ready to celebrate with the news that Pixar’s latest has earned Oscar nominations for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Screenplay. 

“It’s been a roller coaster of fear and joy battling it out the last couple of days, but joy has won out,” says Docter, who watched the Oscars nomination livestream on a laptop in bed with his wife. “It’s a good thing.”
