Almost every detail in Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some!! feels like it came from a 1980 time capsule, from the haircuts and short-shorts to the pop culture references and slang. But the thing that truly cements Linklater’s latest comedy as an ode to all things early ‘80s is the eclectic soundtrack, ranging from The Knack’s “My Sharona” and Pat Benatar’s “Heartbreaker” to Devo’s “Whip It” and The Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight.” Even the movie’s title gets its name from Van Halen’s 1980 classic.

Everybody Wants Some red-band trailer is well-schooled in the art of partying

Boyhood director Richard Linklater takes on not-quite-adulthood in Everybody Wants Some, his new ’80s-set comedy about a team of college baseball players on the prowl for a good time in southeast Texas.

Fresh of the film’s debut at SXSW and a couple of weeks before its April 1 release, the latest red-band trailer showcases some of the NSFW fun the shaggy-haired protagonists get into. Contrary to their coach’s wishes, it’s a whirlwind of booze, girls, wisecracking, and testosterone.

How Richard Linklater’s new film connects to both Dazed and Confused and Boyhood

Richard Linklater is the subject of a new Sundance documentary that puts the filmmaker in a position he’s not accustomed to: being in front of the camera, not behind it.

“I can go on forever about the films I’ve made and my cast and all that; it’s such a weird reversal of perspective to have a film with you as the subject — it’s a little unnerving,” he admits, speaking to EW from the festival.

The new trailer for Linklater’s upcoming comedy Everybody Wants Some follows a group of college baseball players as they learn to cope with impending adulthood. It certainly feels like the slacker comedy sequel to Dazed, but with a decidedly ‘80s twist, from the soundtrack to the shorts.
