Box office preview: Can The Conjuring 2 scare off Now You See Me sequel?

The curse of the 2016 sequel will seemingly meet its match this weekend, as popular continuations of hit movies invade North American theaters on their way to solid domestic grosses. 

With X-Men: Apocalypse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows quickly tumbling their way down the top 10,  there’s more than enough room for newcomers The Conjuring 2, Now You See Me 2, and Warcraft to make waves amid another weekend stuffed with multiple new wide releases.

Fox orders Shots Fired event series starring Sanaa Lathan

Fox has picked up Shots Fired, a timely event series that will star Sanaa Lathan, EW has learned.

Shots Fired examines the dangerous aftermath of racially charged shootings in a small town in Tennessee. Lathan will play an expert investigator who digs into the cases alongside a special prosecutor sent to town by the Department of Justice. The duo navigates the media attention, public debate and social unrest that comes with such volatile cases as they seek justice before the town erupts.

Morris Chestnut reveals why he took The Perfect Guy role, discusses Best Man Wedding details

In its opening weekend, The Perfect Guy won the box office with a surprise $26.7 million, but star Morris Chestnut says that he’s thought of the film as a winner from very beginning.

“I loved the script, but once we sat down with [director] David Rosenthal, it was a situation where I said ‘Man, I want to work with him,’” says Chestnut. “He’s a very interesting storyteller …It was just one of those things I wanted to do.”
