Andi Mack has been renewed for a third season!
Stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Lilan Bowden, Joshua Rush, Sofia Wylie, and Asher Angel received the exciting news from series creator and executive producer Terri Minsky (Lizzie McGuire) while appearing on Good Morning America Monday morning.
The heartwarming coming-of-age series follows the titular character (Lee) as she deals with the discovery that her big sister is actually her mother and the woman she thought was her mother is her grandmother. Along for the ride are Andi’s two best friends, Cyrus and Buffy, played by Rush and Wylie.
Over the course of its two seasons, the series has broken new ground for the network, including tackling a story about a young teen coming to terms with his sexuality. In season 2, Cyrus’ realization that he may have feelings for Jonah (Angel), Andi’s crush, sent him on a journey of self-discovery.
“A series about a girl discovering that her sister is really her mother was new territory for Disney Channel, but Terri’s honest, authentic storytelling allowed our audience to connect deeply to these characters and their journeys of self-discovery,” said Disney Channels Worldwide president Gary Marsh. “What she has crafted stands as a high-water benchmark for kids and family storytelling around the world.”
The series is also executive-produced by Michelle Manning, with Good Luck Charlie‘s Phil Baker also serving as a co-executive producer. Production will resume in Salt Lake City soon.
Andi Mack will return with a one-hour episode Friday, Feb. 8. The second season will resume with 12 new episodes in June, and the third season will premiere later this year.
