The FBI team will get some help from a surprising place during Friday’s episode of Blindspot.

After effectively sacrificing her role last year to protect the team, Nas (Archie Panjabi) returns this week to help the FBI investigate a dangerous piece of technology that was stolen from the NSA. But she’ll come back under very different circumstances.

“We learn that she’s been working with the CIA,” Panjabi tells EW. “But she brings with her some very pressing bit of intel that requires the whole team to go undercover at a massive hackers party with Rich Dotcom [Ennis Esmer] as their guide. What she has learned is so interesting, and it’ll interest the team professionally and personally, but she also brings more answers than questions.”

It’s been more than two years since Nas last saw the team, so she’ll be surprised by some of the big changes, including Rich now working with the FBI, and Jane (Jaimie Alexander) and Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) being married. “Nas gave up quite a lot to protect the team, so they have a lot of respect for her and they’re also very fond of her, so I think she’s as happy to see the whole team as they are to see her,” she says. “That’s quite nice because that reflects how I feel about going back to the show and I know how the cast feel. Those group scenes are always easy and really fun to play.”

Though Nas had been romantically linked to Weller last season, there won’t be any awkwardness now that he’s married to Jane. “I think they were always really meant to be good friends,” Panjabi says. “I think Nas has a really interesting relationship with each of the characters and I think she’s as fond of Weller as she is of Jane, and so she’s surprised by the news, but she’s also happy for them because she knows ultimately they’re meant to be together. There is a scene where both Weller and Nas discuss it in a very mature way.”

Unlike her past tenure on the show, Nas will also get in on the action this time around. “It’s always fun to do Blindspot because there’s so much action and danger,” she says. “I was thrilled that I got to have an action sequence in it. And on that particular day, my cousin turned up to watch, just to see what it’s like filming, and she was really impressed thinking I do this kind of work every day. It was just a one-off, but it was highly enjoyable.”
