We gave it a B+

Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire) plays an actor who makes a deal with the devil — in this case, a blistering Richard Kind as a 1940s Hollywood studio chief — and then bemoans the crap movies he’s forced to make in exchange for fame and money. Director Doug Hughes’ revival of the 1949 Clifford Odets play (on a very personal Odetsian theme of selling out) looks swanky. But there’s something off when the devil is more compelling than the suffering artist. (Roundabouttheatre.org) B+
