Octavia Spencer will help Taraji P. Henson put an American in space. The Oscar winner from The Help will star in Hidden Figures, the film’s producer Donna Gigliotti confirmed to EW.

Ted Melfi (St. Vincent) is helming the adaptation of Margot Lee Shetterly’s book, Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race. It details the efforts by three African-American mathematicians — Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Mary Jackson, Dorothy Vaughan — who aided in John Glenn’s landmark Friendship 7 mission that made him the first American to visit space. Spencer will join Henson in the trio.
