Adam Pally is going back to Fox — and going back in time.
The Mindy Project and Happy Endings alum has signed on to star in a time-travel comedy pilot Making History that is executive-produced by The Last Man on Earth’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the network confirmed on Wednesday.
Making History chronicles the adventures of a trio of unlikely friends who journey through time and bear witness to major historical events, which complicates their lives in 2016. Pally will assume the lead role of Dan, a brainy computer science professor at a small college who is not liked by his students or colleagues, as his impressive intelligence is perceived as offputting. He invents time travel as a way of getting a fresh start, and “methodically uses stolen music, movie lines, and popular culture to great acclaim in the past, where people find him interesting, dashing and gallant.”
The 20th Century Fox TV-produced pilot is being written by Julius “Goldy” Sharpe (The Grinder, Family Guy), who serves as an executive producer alongside Lord and Miller, who also wrote and directed The Lego Movie.
Pally, who stars in the indie comedy Joshy, will also appear later this year in the big-screen adaptation of Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life. Earlier today, news broke that his former Happy Endings costar Eliza Coupe snagged a leading role in another comedy pilot with a time-travel element: Hulu’s Future Man.
