While plans still seem to be churning around the Jump Street/Men in Black crossover, Rodney Rothman, who penned 22 Jump Street for Sony (who declined to comment for this story), has been tapped to write — and possibly direct — a spinoff centered on female cops, EW has confirmed. Deadline was the first to report the news.

Should Rothman also direct, the Jump Street spinoff would mark his directorial debut on a feature film. He previously penned Grudge Match and worked as a writer for The Late Show during David Letterman’s reign.

21 Jump Street, released in 2012, starred Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as underdog cops sent on an undercover mission to uncover a drug ring at a local high school. Its sequel, 22 Jump Street, debuted in 2014.
